Right now is the last winter before I graduate high school. The temperature has been pretty cold lately and we might actually have snow this holiday. Sadly, there’s someone I know who probably isn’t enjoying this weather very much. A Dragon by the name of Seryn, a senior like me, is not very fond of the cold weather. Not that she would outright admit it, though.
I’m enjoying my winter break at home watching T.V., parents are out so I have the house to myself, when there’s a knock at the door. And speaking of the devil, or in this case Dragon, Seryn is standing there bundled up in a big coat, scarves, and other winter attire that make it look like she was going hiking in a blizzard.
“Hey, Seryn, what are you doing here?” I ask.
“I was bored so I dropped by. Are you going let me in, or are you just going to make me stand out here?” she asked, walking inside before I could even answer.
Honestly, I don’t even know why I bother hanging around her, or why she bothers hanging with me. She usually acts like I’m some lowlife, which I hear is pretty standard for Dragons, though she’s never called me that directly. I definitely feel the implications.
Seryn walks into the living room and takes a seat on the couch. Though, she hasn’t taken off any of her winter attire yet.
“Do you have someplace you need to be soon?” I ask.
“Why do you ask?”
“Because you’re still wearing your coat and stuff.”
“I just haven’t gotten around to taking it off yet, that’s all,” she says crossing her arms and scowling at me.
“Whatever. I plan on making some hot cocoa, want any?” Might as well be a good host.
“That would be fine.” With that, I leave Seryn in the living room and head towards the kitchen.
After a few minutes, I come back to the living room with two, steaming mugs. I hand one to Seryn and take a seat in another chair. I see that in the time I had taken to make the hot cocoa, Seryn had taken off her winter attire.
Though her attitude is something to be desired, she was absolutely beautiful. I’ve seen plenty of Mamono at school to know that they develop very well, even making some of the human girls a bit jealous. But out of all of the other Mamono, Seryn somehow just takes my breath away.
Her looks are pretty similar to other Dragons I’ve seen, but her blue scales, white hair that reached down to her waist, and piercing-red eyes for some reason captivates me. Like I said, if her attitude was a little better then I might have tried asking her out or something. Not that she would have said yes, of course.
“Why are you sitting over there?” Seryn suddenly asks, shaking me from my thoughts.
“Um…because it would be better than sitting on the floor?” I’m not really sure what kind of answers she wants, asking me this all of a sudden.
“That’s not what I meant. Why don’t you sit on here with me?” Seryn asks, patting the couch with her clawed hand.
I’m completely without words. Is she really being serious? I hesitate at first, but then I move to sit on the opposite side of the couch from her. Seryn rolls her eyes, picks up her mug, and scooches closer to me.
“Um, what are you doing?” I ask, not really sure what to make of this.
“Well, I figured it was a bit cold out and since it makes me a bit uncomfortable, I figured you were probably freezing right now. Just being human and all,” Seryn states grabbing to folded up blanket sitting on the couch and covering us both up. Is this girl being serious right now? Is this just her way of getting warmer without saying anything? I…surprisingly find this kind of cute.
“C-can I ask you something?” Seryn asks, a tint of red coming to her cheeks.
“What’s up?” I ask, when I suddenly feel Seryn tail start coiling around my waist. Ooookay.
“What are your plans after you graduate?” What has suddenly gotten into Seryn all of a sudden? Does she actually have feelings for me? I sigh and look up at the ceiling.
“Actually, I plan on moving during the summer.” I look over to Seryn and her face seems to have gone completely pale.
“W-why!?” she asks leaning in close to me.
“I’ve signed up and have been accepted to a college a couple cities away. I plan on moving there to continue school.” While explaining that, Seryn face becomes down-casted as her tail tightens around my waist even more.
“W-what about a job?”
“My grandfather has already talked to a friend of his there and he said I could work at his shop part-time.” As soon as I finished my explanation, Seryn had pushed me down on the couch. Her face was a deep red, and her eyes have started watering.
“You can’t go!” Seryn practically shouts at me, tears forming on the corners of her eyes.
“Why not?”
“B-because I said so, and that’s final!” I’ve had a enough of this. I’m going to get a straight answer out of her one way or another.
“Seryn, tell me why I can’t go. Because unless you have a damn good excuse, by the time we get our diplomas, I’ll be mostly packed and looking for a new place.” Seryn just looks at me before tilting her head down to the point of covering her eyes with her bangs. Her sharp breaths tell me she’s on the verge of crying.
“I don’t want you to leave me,” Seryn says, laying her face on my chest.
“Why don’t you want me to leave?” I ask in a soft voice. Say it, Seryn. Tell me how you really feel for once.
She doesn’t say anything for her answer, but instead leans in closer to me and kisses me on the lips.
“Because I love you.” There. Was that so hard?
“For how long?” I ask wiping a tear away with my thumb.
“Ever since we first met.” First met? That was back in middle school when her parents moved here. All that time and she hasn’t treated me the best. Then again, she wouldn’t stop hanging out with me since then. Dragons are weird.
“I’m glad you told me this, but I’m afraid this doesn’t really change anything. I’m still going to college so I’ll still have to move,” I explain. Seryn looks like she’s deep in thought until she looks me square in the eyes.
“I’ll come with you.”
“Huh? Wait, what about your future? What would your parents think?” Seryn looks away, a small grin and a blush form on her face.
“My parents, or really my mom, had already figured out my feeling a long time ago. They said if I still felt strongly about you, then I should follow my heart. I want you to be my future.”
I kind of just stare at her for a few seconds. The girl, that only tolerated my presence for years, is now willing to just drop everything just to say with me. I…I don’t actually know how I should feel. A beautiful girl wanting to do so much for me is cool to think about, but I can’t help but feel a little guilty as well.
“Are you absolutely sure? One hundred percent positive?” I ask just to make absolutely sure she knew what she was doing. Seryn answers me again with another kiss, this time much more passionately.
“I do.” Well then, I’m going to do my darndest to make sure this Dragon is the happiest she can be from now on.
We both lay there on the couch with the blanket over us, and Seryn resting her head on my chest who I’m sure can hear my excited heartbeats as I think about the future.
“You’re really warm,” Seryn says snuggling into my chest more.
“So you were cold?” I ask, chuckling a little.
“Never again.”

Cool story to read though it could’ve been done a bit better.
I enjoyed reading it 😀
I know. This was one I didn’t feel 100% with but still enjoyed writing it.
Glad to hear you still enjoyed it. 🙂
