The Rask Rebellion

Betrayal! The Rask have launched a surprise attack against their former allies, plunging the territories of Borealis into a bloody war. The tyrannical Matriarch deploys her pirate legions to seize control of the planet’s trade routes, while a UNN Assault Carrier lands a battalion of armored vehicles on its surface to restore order. The Coalition forces must drive across the Dune Sea, thousands of kilometers of inhospitable desert, fighting off the Rask army as they go.

Firebrand

When a council meeting on the Pinwheel is interrupted by an assassination attempt, Security Chief Moralez is given seventy-two hours to unmask the culprit, all while under the watchful eye of two mysterious intelligence operatives with an unknown agenda. The suspects range from hostile aliens to shady special forces operatives, even elements of his own government are not above suspicion. Only by piecing together the clues can he uncover who carried out the attack, and why.

Fox Spa

“Oh, did you hear?” Raza asked from under her bundle of extra expansive, extra plush winter coat and earmuffs. “A Mythfolk family took over the Rosé spa. They open in a few weeks. What’s it called now-?”

“The Pamper Me?” Youko warily answered. Raza clapped her paws together.

“Yeah! That’s it. Oh I’d love to go, but I don’t have a free weekend again for like, a while. At least until after Stephen’s birthday in February.” Raza was at her red Civic ready to step in. Lola was still half celebrating as she glided into the driver’s side of her Toyota van.

“I think my Aunt’s family owns it. I got a weird email this morning, but uh, she wanted me to invite some friends to try it out early. If you, uh, want.”

Both of Youko’s coworkers ran back to her side in an instant.

Forced Freedom

Major Ashlynn Daray, Hero of the Crimson Wing Brigade unit: Aeria Gloris — “Heavenly Glory,” has managed to make her way back to base, sequestered within Royal Ravalia, a kingdom neighboring Lescatié, narrowly escaping capture at the hands of the ruthless mamono of Darkhaven.

… Except something feels missing. Wrong, somehow. Did she truly escape unscathed?

This story takes place in my original setting created for “Eyes in the Dark” and “Electrickery,” and was written as a speed-writing challenge with EighthSpan. The goal was to choose a subject matter for the other person and write what was given. I chose Inari, and was assigned Ropers. The Roper has not received much love, so I aimed to change that. I wrote this story in about 3 days, not including editing/proofreading. The goal was to keep the story at or under 20k words, which I failed miserably, coming in at over 31k. Oh, well.
