Captain’s Log, Captain Rafeel Soban. Day 1. Auto-generated transcript.
The launch from Depot 32 went without a hitch, and losing Daiamid’s tracking turned out about as easy as Ingred thought that it’d be. Except that’s where the plan ends, not because I didn’t make any. The plan is no longer applicable to the situation.
In Alice’s report, a video explanation of ‘what Alice is’ was supposed to auto-play, and an option for me to reboot Kaiirda’s system with A.L.I.C.E. As default was supposed to be available. So that I can have a pain-free introduction to a true sophont AI, that didn’t happen, and I’m not sure how much that was supposed to help anyway.
Alice’s report also had an entire section dedicated to the analysis of the unknown quantum waveform. To summarize, by pure coincidence, the energetic discharge from the electrified sandstorm and the rare metal shards flying about somehow created a partial hyperspace equation close to Kaiirda. Interference from the auto-repair PDA interlaced through the hull structure centered the equation on the cruiser. Rather than the extreme energy influx shredding the hull into trillions upon trillions of subatomic particles, the auto-polarizing hull plates somehow stabilized it and allowed a stable hyperspace pathway to form. The result is that the expedition is somehow light years off course on a planet that might not even be in the same galaxy. I was also apparently very lucky to have been alive at all, getting tossed through hyperspace unprotected and unprepared.
This all seems insane. The furthest I’ve traveled prior to now was from my hometown to the storm breakers. The furthest I expected the expedition to cover was less than ten thousand kilometers. Yet here I am.
In any case, Alice’s presence is somehow both reassuring and terrifying. Reassuring in the sense that fleet operations are no longer an impossibility, and… well… terrifying in the same way that any other Kushan does with advanced AI technology. Well, as a professional, and considering my situation, I’ll have to learn to look past that fear in my decision-making.
For the time being, I’ll have to spend some time properly assessing the situation, designating new objectives, and drawing up new plans. More importantly, I should also stop ignoring this headache and visit the med bay first thing in the morning. Hopefully, Ingred gave Alice proper medical functionality, and hopefully, I’ll get some questions about this cruiser answered.
Automated Expedition Log, A.L.I.C.E. Prime Instance. Day 1
Based on the recovered system logs, the expedition launch and escaping Daiamid tracking went according to plan. Unfortunately, the original expedition objectives are now invalid due to the present situation.
First, a quantum waveform of unknown origin has displaced the expedition flagship to an unknown location via mechanisms consistent with that of hyperspace travel theorized by Rachel S’jet. A preliminary assessment using the star tracker cameras and soil sample analysis suggests that the Kaiirda is no longer in the Kharak star system. Simple probability analysis suggests that reversing the hyperspace traversal is not a possibility. We are stranded. A detailed report and analysis of the quantum waveform has been compiled and stored in the cruiser’s databank as “Situation Report F0-1-2183 A.”
Second, the energy surge incurred by the spontaneous hyperspace event was partially absorbed and shunted by the auto-polarizing armor plates, causing a backflow in the main power distribution system, forcing the reactor primary conduit connectors to isolate the powerplant subgrid from the rest of the cruiser. Backup power systems remained operational for at least 7 seconds and absorbed an estimated 99.8% of the surge, taking severe damage in the process. Except for severe data corruption in the active operating system at the time of the surge, expect minimal damage to all other systems. A detailed report and analysis of the Kaiirda’s status has been compiled and stored in the cruiser’s databank as “Situation Report F0-1-2183 B.”
As the situation fulfills the conditions described in protocol ‘Polar Sunset,’ I will now prioritize Captain Rafeel Soban over all else and grant the sole super-administrator privileges to Captain Rafeel Soban.
Current objectives designated by Captain Rafeel Soban:
Regain mobility.
Find nearby resourcing opportunities.
