First story in a long time, was written for a Halloween contest but did not make it before the deadline.
“NO, NO, NO, AHHHHHHH!” screamed the man as sharp fangs sunk deep into his neck. His throat was viciously torn out and blood sprayed across the room; coating the walls, floor, and ceiling. The now dead man collapsed into the puddle of blood as a half wolf abomination loomed over the cooling corpse and howled. “Why do people watch these things?” Dean muttered to himself as he shut the wall of TVs off for the night. “Nobody believes in monsters and the special effects look fake as shit!” Dean sighed, shutting off the lights and locking the front door. He knew he was just ranting to vent his frustration, he was missing the Halloween party because a coworker called in sick and he had to pick up the slack. “Better late than never, I guess” he whined. He hung up a ‘Yancy’s Electronics’ smock and removed his phone and jacket from his locker. He pulled on his jacket and checked his messages. He looked at the screen, groaned, and stuffed the device in his pocket. No signal. Again.
The last week had been weird with spotty cell phone coverage, auroras in the midwest, and animals all over the world just acting weird. Unsurprisingly some nutjob cult sprung up spouting off about the end of the world and some kind of convergence, but scientists said it’s probably the magnetic poles doing some kind of shift. But Dean didn’t care about that, he cared that his friend Nick wasn’t there to pick him up and he couldn’t call or text him. “You fucker, I’m never lending you my car again…” Dean grumbled to himself as he started walking down the dimly lit street towards the party.
Looking around, Dean frowned. He was in the residential part of town, but there was a distinct lack of trick-or-treaters around. He pulled out his phone and checked the time. 11:17, not late enough for the older kids to call it a night unless there was a curfew he didn’t know about. He didn’t even see more than a couple of cars drive by since he started his trek across town. Dean started to feel uneasy, something’s wrong. He briefly considered going up to a house and knocking on a door to ask what’s going on, but he didn’t know anyone in this part of town and he really didn’t want to risk picking the wrong house and getting shot by some paranoid basket case or something. Deciding his best bet was to just keep going, Dean continued walking.
He checked his phone again. 11:58, still no signal. Dean sighed; it was late, he was sore, and his plans were ruined. At this point he just wanted to go to bed and figure out what’s happening in the morning. As he slipped his phone back in his pocket he froze, it felt like a force rippled through the air past him and every hair on his body was standing on end. He could feel eyes boring into him. Part of his mind just wanted him to run, but that part of his mind was silenced and his thoughts were suddenly fuzzy. Turning around, he saw a little girl in the middle of the street. She was wearing some bizarre costume with horns, skull hair decorations, a scythe, big furry gloves, furry boots that ended in hooves, and was otherwise nearly naked with thin strips of cloth covering her chest and crotch. Her eyes seemed to slightly glow as Dean’s thoughts became sluggish.
Dean’s rational brain screamed at him that something was wrong and he should run away, but something was just not letting it through as he approached the strange child. She reached out with a paw and smiled, saying something in a language Dean had never heard before. Despite not understanding the language, he somehow understood what she’d said anyway. “Onii-Chan”. As he stepped off the curb, there was a sudden screeching of tires and a deafening crash. When his senses returned, Dean was on his ass looking at a man stumbling out of a mangled, smoking car. Still stunned, Dean just stared as the man yelled, “Call 911, hurry!” at him. The man ran around to the front of the car mumbling in a panic, both men were completely stunned when an unblemished little girl simply pried herself free of the wreckage.
Before he knew what was going on, Dean was sprinting away as fast as his legs could carry him. He felt bad for leaving that other guy to whatever fate was in store for him, but what could he have even done against that tiny terminator with mind control? What did it even want? Were there more of them? Dean shook his head, he could worry about all that when he was home. His legs burned and his side ached from running, but he just had a couple more blocks to go. “Come. *HUFF* On. *Puff* Almost the-” Dean stopped so fast he almost went tumbling, In front of him was chaos. People were being chased out of their houses by countless varieties of monstrous women where they were grabbed up and carried through what could only be described as a ragged tear in reality the size of a garage door.
Ducking behind a corner, Dean tried to quietly catch his breath and plan his next step. “I can’t go back unless I want to deal with an unstoppable goat child, so now what?” he murmured to himself. All he could really do is stay hidden and wait, hopefully they’ll move on or help would arrive. The army or national guard will show up and save everyone any time now, right? Dean watched from his hiding spot as person after person disappeared into the tear. A group of horned girls with clubs led by a larger one with uneven horns happily chanted in an unknown language as they carried a man through, followed by some kind of cross between a snake and a dragon that had another man in her large claws that she kept cooing at and rubbing her face against. He had to turn away when some kind of purple blob in maid clothes came into view, it was full of eyes and just looking at it gave him a headache and strained something deep within his mind.
He closed his eyes and massaged his temples in an attempt to relieve the strain, that last one might have been the most dangerous monster yet. As he was recovering he caught a whiff of sulfur in the air. That couldn’t be good. He could faintly hear the sound of sniffing close by and getting closer every second. Dean desperately looked around in a panic, he had to get out of here NOW. Across the street was a boarded up hardware store, if he could get in he might be able to hunker down and wait this whole thing out. With no other choice, he bolted out of his hiding spot towards what he hoped would be sanctuary. And then something slammed into him and pinned him to the pavement. He turned his head to the side and was greeted by 2 flaming orange orbs and a sharp toothed grin.
Dean desperately struggled to get free, but huge furry paws had an iron grip on his wrists. The creature brought it’s face close and inhaled deeply, it must’ve liked what it smelled because it wagged its tail furiously and took another big whiff. In a flash it had flipped him over and pinned his arms with it’s knees, giving him a clear view of what was clearly a female’s posterior as she began to rip his pants apart. Dean struggled and yelled for help until she sat down, sufficiently muffling his cries and soaking his face. All he could see was darkness as he felt a hot breath on his exposed lower body. Suddenly, there was a gunshot and a ricochet on the street just inches away. The infernal dog woman yelped and rolled off of him, holding her ears with her big paws. Dean could hear someone calling out to him over the ringing in his ears, they quickly pulled him to his feet and led into the building.
Inside there were about a dozen people, some huddled against the back wall and the rest barricading the door and windows with lumber and shelving units. Dean tried to cover his shame with the ragged strips of cloth that used to be his pants when a familiar feminine voice called out to him. “Are you okay Dean?” He smiled and replied, “Thanks to you, Karen.” She made a sour face. “You know I hate it when people call me that! Call me Ren, nobody likes a Karen.” Dean laughed, “Thanks for saving me, Ren.” The reunion was cut short as the barricade shuddered from a powerful blow. The people in the back huddled tighter together as everyone else desperately pushed against the pile of scrap keeping the monsters out. One man with his back against a pile of drywall panels screamed “Hope you’re proud of yourself Ren, thanks to you and yer little boyfriend they know we’re he-” A huge black claw shot through and pulled the screaming man through in a chalky white cloud right before blasting through the barricade.
A huge black furry spider with a horned green-skinned woman sticking out of it stepped over the remains of the barrier it had just blown though like cardboard. The creature’s horns scraped the ceiling and made it rain plaster onto her head and breasts, it’s cow ears flicked as it’s uncovered eye scanned the room. The monster’s eye locked onto a man that was scrambling out from under the broken barricade and began to close in on it’s squirming prey. When the monster bent down, Ren screamed and swung an axe down on her neck, causing a black liquid to spray in her face, mouth and eyes. The spider staggered for a moment, then the bleeding just stopped. It picked up the man and walked out like nothing had happened. The building was full of stunned silence aside from the sound of Ren spitting out black fluid and as she felt her way to the bathroom. Then a brown skinned girl with big pristine white paws peeked in, followed by a girl with one single huge eyeball, a blue skinned woman with black horns, and a familiar flaming eyed dog woman. Then they charged in and all hell broke loose.
It was chaos as everyone either tried to escape, fight, or reinforce the barrier. Dean decided to do the noble thing and locked himself in the bathroom. Looking around the tiny cramped room he saw a single toilet, a tiny window, and a sink that Ren was hunched over. “You doing okay?” He asked. “Uughh” Replied Ren. Clearly she wasn’t doing so hot, her face was sweaty and a looking a little green. “We need to get out of here, that shitty door isn’t going to last 2 seconds against those things.” said Dean. Ren replied by throwing up. “… okay, I’m going to check the window, then.” Dean slid open the window and looked around, nothing on this side of the building. He squeezed out and snuck to the corner, looks like all of the monsters are inside or somewhere else. Looking back in the window Dean was horrified, Ren’s was now entirely green and she had to have thrown up a gallon of the black substance by now. “R-Ren?” She looked up at him, her panicked eyes had gone from blue to an almost glowing gold. “Dean, what’s happening to me?” Then she held her head and groaned as horns began to sprout out of her blackening hair. Dean fearfully backed away from the window. “Wait, don’t go!” Ren begged as she stumbled to the window, her black furred hands gripping the windowsill and her horns hitting the frame. Dean whimpered an apology and ran, leaving Ren crying and begging for him to come back.
Dean tightly closed his eyes and ran away as fast as he could, leaving the screams and cries of the others behind until he reached his neighborhood. It was dead silent here, but he was too distraught and exhausted to care. He struggled to pull his keys from the shredded remains of his pants and unlocked the door after multiple failed attempts due to his trembling hands and teary eyes. He locked the door behind him, got into the fetal position on his bed, and cried himself to sleep filled with fear and regret.
He woke up several hours later, he could hear birds chirping but the interior of the room was pitch black. Confused he checked his phone, reception had apparently come back at some point because there was a flood of notifications for texts and emergency alerts. Alerts were to take shelter last night at around 11pm, and another instructing people where to gather. He guessed that means that whatever was going on was already over. Texts from friends and family asking if he’s okay and if he’d heard anything from other people. The low battery message popped up so he rolled over to get his charger, but he couldn’t move. Dean’s eyes opened wide as he began to struggle, but he was wrapped up in something and could only use his arms and head. He opened his mouth to scream for help, but soft lips met his and put a stop to that. The one-sided kiss only ceased when he stopped trying to scream, the soft lips were replaced by something big and furry. “I’m very upset with you Dean, I was so scared when you abandoned me in that tiny bathroom. But don’t worry, I know exactly how you can make it up to me~” “R-ren, is that you?!” “Shhhh, no talking until after I’ve worked out all these frustrations out on you. Don’t worry, I won’t hurt you. My… I guess you could call her mother, gave me a little present that lets me hold back so I’m a little less likely to break you.” Dean felt a pressure on his whole body that caused the bed to creak in protest. “Nobody knows if either of us are still around, so we have plenty of time together. Also the neighborhood is empty so feel free to make all the noise you want~”
