Hobgoblin Childhood Friend

Our army group has been sent to rescue another army group that was ambushed and mostly captured. I’m particularly worried about a friend in the army group, and hope that we can rescue her in time before they decide to kill and eat her.

They saw us coming and sallied out from their camp to meet us, the orcs and goblins maneuvering their army into a proper formation for rushing us. We did the same, forming a mainly defensive formation for our enemy to hopefully break themselves upon.

The White Snake

Lily is unemployed and living off her big brother Timothy’s dime. Feeling guilty over her leeching, she reaches out to a friend, Sayoko, who reveals you can make quite a bit of money off your shed skin, blood, and venom… too bad Lily doesn’t have any of those. That is, not until she willingly undergoes monsterization. As Lily’s changes continue, her hidden desires are unable to be repressed any longer. Much to her brother’s horror.

Desert Jewel

The future looks rather bleak for Samira, a slave girl in the desert of the Southlands. She’s prayed to the Goddess for years for some kind of respite from her life, but maybe she’s been praying to the wrong goddess?

This story is part of my original MGE setting, Darkness Prevails. (Click its tag for the others.) It is the fourth entry of the series, but can safely be read out of sequence of the others.  Enjoy!

Forced Freedom

Major Ashlynn Daray, Hero of the Crimson Wing Brigade unit: Aeria Gloris — “Heavenly Glory,” has managed to make her way back to base, sequestered within Royal Ravalia, a kingdom neighboring Lescatié, narrowly escaping capture at the hands of the ruthless mamono of Darkhaven.

… Except something feels missing. Wrong, somehow. Did she truly escape unscathed?

This story takes place in my original setting created for “Eyes in the Dark” and “Electrickery,” and was written as a speed-writing challenge with EighthSpan. The goal was to choose a subject matter for the other person and write what was given. I chose Inari, and was assigned Ropers. The Roper has not received much love, so I aimed to change that. I wrote this story in about 3 days, not including editing/proofreading. The goal was to keep the story at or under 20k words, which I failed miserably, coming in at over 31k. Oh, well. Better luck next time. Enjoy!
