“My- this has certainly turned into a most eventful evening.” Mari tittered. “According to my father, it was quite common for adventurers, mercenaries and heroes to have a rowdy night like this before embarking on some sort of quest….”
“Yeah- but I’m none of those. And I don’t really think I’ll be embarking on any kind of quest anytime soon.”

We all know the classic stories. Boy meets girl. A man goes on a journey. A stranger comes to town. An ancient near demi god takes in a human man. Wait maybe not that last one. But the last one is this story. Can Kaori find joy in the company of others again?Read More...
“Angelique?” I began, “Why didn’t you go home after you saw me,…you know?” I asked, motioning to indicate my nose-dive.
She didn’t say anything at first, instead she just reached out with her arms and hugged me close. I returned the hug as best I could.
“Because it broke me.” She whispered mournfully. I was about to say something more, but that was when she turned her head up to me and silently pleaded for me to allow her to continue. I did.
“When I saw the man I loved, kill himself. It broke me.” She said looking down at the floor. “I can’t explain it any better than that.” She continued, shaking her head, her pointed ears waggling in unison.
“Yet, even then I still felt my connection with you, my love-prey.”Read More...

“See that you do, Monsieur Poirier, as I do not wish to see you go the way of your predecessor.” She answered off handedly.
“My Predecessor?” I inquired.
“Hai!” she returned, and then leaned over to whisper into my ear, “Food Poisoning.” She said in the quietest of whispers. I gasped involuntarily.
“He is still on Emergency Matrimonial Leave,” she continued, “and I expect him to remain in that status, until such time as his wife feels that he can be trusted out of her sight.”
They sat together next to each other on the set table. After distributing the food into their respective plates, they decided that feeding each other would be more fun than eating normally. They broke off pieces of chicken and omelette and fed it to each other, switching to their fingers when they felt it wasn’t intimate enough. In spite of himself and his usually stern, reserved demeanour, he felt his face relax into a smile whenever she ate a piece of chicken or omelette from his fingers and sucked them clean. The way she closed her eyes while literally eating out of his hands was so cute. He watched her face as she chewed and swallowed the last morsel, his heart melting at the change in pace. From strangers to gropers in no time.
They got up, lifting the dishes from the table and walking to the sink. As he put his in and stepped aside for her to place her own so that they could start scrubbing, she did something else. She placed her plate inside and took his hand. She looked up at him shyly, her eyelids lowered and her mouth forming a shy smile. She sighed, and looked up at him with an obvious effort.Read More...
