Little Monster Miracle Orphanage (Day 25)

“Uuuuuuuuuuu~ghhhhhh~” Fubuki groaned even further.

“I can supply with you a number of different tasks, sure to keep you from thinking about your increasing boredom” The Orphanage doctor Lich Rin murmured.

“Just…well~ come on~ It’s been two whole days~! And it’s been work this, and raise that…I already taught the girls on my end how to filate a salmon, and clean grease stains off a couch with natural ingredients! I don’t know what else is left for me Rin~!” Fubuki whined.

“Perhaps assisting Kaitlyn in diplomatic discussions with the realm of Wonderland…granted I understand her decision to leave you behind…” Rin acknowledged.

Little Monster Miracle Orphanage (Day 23)

“Lady Ryu…we’ve noticed that there has been a spring in your step lately…but you suddenly ceased…is there anything concerning you?” A passing Inari shrine maiden asked her Lady Ryu Kosame.

“Well…I was just thinking about things…lately…” Kosame said.

“We also noticed a certain someone hasn’t visited your shrine in quite a while…” the Inari added.

“I suppose that is the case…I-I barely…noticed…” her tone felt fleeting, from casual to sad in only a few words.

“Cheer up my Lady Ryu! Surely it means your blessings are helping him substantially…no doubt he will return to you to tell you all this himself” the Inari read her like a book.

“Y-you think so-well I mean…so long as he is happy that is my happiness, I…I should get to work myself, in case anyone wishes to visit me” Kosame said.

Light in the Darkness

Orphaned at the age of 11, Feihuo transitioned through the remainder of her childhood in the home of the Toriyama family as one of their own. Now, ten years later, she has decided to seek out the source of her little brother’s nightmares…

This story was written for the Mouse Girl contest, and also serves as a prequel story in my series, Darkness Prevails, and takes place approximately ten years before the events of Eyes in the Dark. It, like my other contest entry (Uncertain Hearts) was written without any outside proofreading, in the interest of fairness. It may read rougher than my others as a result.

As this story is a prequel, it can be read out of sequence of the other stories. A followup sequel is planned as well.  Enjoy!

Bachelorsville, Texas- Chapter 4: Arm Candy and Six Tails

“My- this has certainly turned into a most eventful evening.” Mari tittered. “According to my father, it was quite common for adventurers, mercenaries and heroes to have a rowdy night like this before embarking on some sort of quest….”

“Yeah- but I’m none of those. And I don’t really think I’ll be embarking on any kind of quest anytime soon.”

“You’d be surprised, Jacob. Never say ‘never’. Besides, weren’t you a soldier?”

Blind Faith

Her mood grayer than the storm clouds above her, she walks with no destination. Her home is destroyed, and her once-prosperous village is long gone. She has no hope, until a gesture of kindness from a stranger sparks something within her…

Eighth Tail

We all know the classic stories. Boy meets girl. A man goes on a journey. A stranger comes to town. An ancient near demi god takes in a human man. Wait maybe not that last one. But the last one is this story. Can Kaori find joy in the company of others again?

Cut and Run Ch. 14

“Angelique?” I began, “Why didn’t you go home after you saw me,…you know?” I asked, motioning to indicate my nose-dive.

She didn’t say anything at first, instead she just reached out with her arms and hugged me close. I returned the hug as best I could.

“Because it broke me.” She whispered mournfully. I was about to say something more, but that was when she turned her head up to me and silently pleaded for me to allow her to continue. I did.

“When I saw the man I loved, kill himself. It broke me.” She said looking down at the floor. “I can’t explain it any better than that.” She continued, shaking her head, her pointed ears waggling in unison.

“Yet, even then I still felt my connection with you, my love-prey.”
